First registered in 1744, Birkenstock was named after the brand’s founder, Johann Adam Birkenstock. During the 19th century, Johann’s grandson, Konrad, was one of the first shoemakers to produce insoles that were moulded to the shape of someone’s foot, subsequently creating the ‘footbed’. Fast-forward to present day, Birkenstock is one of the leading shoe innovators in the world, garnering a massive following from their high-quality, on-trend sandals.
